Fast Forward To Next G?

http://jobfunctions.bnet.com/abstract.aspx?docid=936185

A few years ago 3G was considered the only way to deliver high-speed bandwidth to data-hungry customers. Despite the steep costs, many carriers invested heavily, foreseeing a sort of wireless communications nirvana at the end of the 3G tunnel. Not surprisingly, while we've been waiting for the 3G promise, alternative technologies have emerged, introducing options that may help carriers achieve the same high bandwidth aim for a lot less money. That's not to say that carriers should forget about 3G entirely. After all, the technology is being deployed now and may end up satisfying bandwidth and capacity requirements for existing and yet-to-be-imagined wireless applications. We won't know for sure until 3G is tested in its prime.

Gen Y-Ers, Baby Boomers & Technology: Worlds Apart?

http://jobfunctions.bnet.com/abstract.aspx?docid=932259

It's a common perception: Older workers just don't get new communications technologies like email, instant messaging and company intranets. Why should they, after all? Baby Boomers in Western nations grew up alongside TV and the telephone, and conventional wisdom says they're simply too rooted in these traditional technologies to adopt something new. Turns out conventional wisdom is relative to one's hemisphere. Because in emerging nations like China, India and Brazil, older workers are adopting new technologies at a rapid pace - more quickly than Boomers in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

The most progressive companies have been using best-of-breed Human Resource (HR) technologies for attracting, hiring, training, motivating, and managing their people. Software applications are getting more and more sophisticated to help companies with these tasks, and as these solutions continue to evolve and communicate with one another, user companies will have more seamless access to methods and data to manage their employees throughout the employee life cycle. On the other hand, laggard companies that do not embrace these technologies will likely fall behind in their quest for market dominance.

http://jobfunctions.bnet.com/abstract.aspx?docid=312554

In practice, no organization would argue that they did not want to optimize organizational performance. To turn rhetorical commentary into action requires organizational savvy, political influence, technology and strong marketing. For Human Resource (HR) executives, these challenges are compounded by a lack of technology infrastructure to eliminate inefficient paper-based processes, centralize employee competency data, and maintain a clear picture of how employee effectiveness impacts the organization. An organization's ability to differentiate itself from its competitors relies on its ability to foster growth and innovation to achieve and sustain a strong competitive position. This requires integrating employee processes and information with business processes and strategies to achieve optimal business results.
