Overview: In this paper, an attempt is made to put marketing strategy into perspective by providing four important elements or givens that must be clarified in order for strategies to be effectively formulated and carried out: all strategies are hierarchical and inter-connected; strategic planning is a complex, ongoing process; strategies are interconnected and cross-functional; and the ability to make decisions and to execute is vital. Consider each given as a personal challenge while building a stronger strategic foundation for the products and brands, and for the plans and programs that ultimately support those products in the market.
