Overview: From the executive summary: ‘At the enterprise level, security is no longer a technical issue at all. Instead, it encompasses the protection of a wide variety of physical and data resources. Enterprise security usually includes business-continuity planning, disaster recovery, data protection and privacy, and physical security. The goal is to align the people, process, and technical elements with the business and to provide integrated planning to reduce risk to the enterprise as a whole. Many leading-edge companies are in the initial planning stages of such an enterprise-security approach. Their strategy is to centralize leadership, but also to decentralize its implementation. In other words, the business is accountable for security and program implementation and the business managers worry about the cost-risk trade-off.’ The paper examines this issue.
