Overview: Morale is the emotional or mental condition, with respect to cheerfulness, in the face of opposition or hardship. This paper covers the importance of keeping morale high in the workplace, the causes of low morale, and effective techniques involved in boosting morale. Morale is a very important component in the proper functioning of a group. All groups, from athletics to the military or in business, would benefit greatly from high morale. There are a number of causes for morale being low, such as downsizing, unexpected changes in policies, or constant miscommunications between supervisors and subordinates. This leads to low productivity within a group, which isn't good for business. There are also numerous techniques that a supervisor can implement to boost morale in a negatively-impacted work environment.
