Overview: From the executive summary: ‘In response to a rash of school shootings, every State Departments of Education in the United States has issued new mandates to school districts to implement safe school plans. The U. S. Department of Education has reinforced this process by requiring all schools that receive federal Safe and Drug Free School funds to have a safe school plan. A safety committee that conducts a staff, student, and parent school climate survey creates safe school plans. Typical problems identified and addressed through safe school plans are bullying, sexual harassment, conflict resolution, violence, and drug prevention.’ The paper examines this issue.
