Overview: A country's level of e-readiness more often than not mirrors its overall economic environment. Consistent economic development usually dictates a higher level of sustained investment in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure and the commitment to policy development. The countries of North America, Western Europe as well as some of the newest European Union (EU) members are the best examples. But it is also a key reason why high-growth regions such as South and South-east Asia are making strides over other developing regions such as Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa. Nevertheless, all developing regions see returns on even the most basic investment in telecoms or computer networks.
