Overview: Computational analysis has dramatically reshaped individual’s thought process about society and social processes. Today all issues are addressed using computational models. Within the computational social and organizational sciences, models range from very simple models to the complex detailed models. The paper discusses the difference between the use and belief in models, with respect to the true value of veridicality and transparency. For simple models, it is transparency, i.e. ‘it’s obvious to the viewer how things work’, and that does the trick. For the complex models, ‘Veridicality’ comes to the forefront, with the underlying principle that the model works like the real world; i.e., ‘it portrays truth’.
