Overview: Competitive advantage is the measure of a firm’s competencies and performance against the factors prevailing in the firm’s external environment. Competitive strategy is all about identifying and exploiting opportunities to gain competitive advantage. It is imperative for the organization to conduct the industry analysis wherein the moves and counter moves of the competing firms are studied. Such analysis also helps to ascertain the position of the organization vis-à-vis the competing firms and chalk out the competitive strategy. The paper examines these issues and discusses Porter’s Five Forces Model for conducting the industry analysis.
