Overview: Supply chain management defines the methodologies adopted by an organization for various activities involved in the product development. They include the journey of the product from the sourcing of raw materials until the sale of the finished product in the market. Dealers, distributors, and retailers are some of the important elements constituting the supply chain. Efficient information management forms the fulcrum of successful supply chain management. Systems should be in place for effective information sharing among different elements of the supply chain. The paper examines the basic principles of supply chain management and discusses the relevance and role of information management in the same.
