Overview: In a dynamically changing business environment, organizations need to be highly flexible regarding their systems and processes. Such flexibility enables the organization to easily re-structure and align itself to the change. This adaptation to the change is imperative for the organization to sustain itself in the ever-changing market. Plug-ins and reengineering are two different approaches towards attaining organizational flexibility. The former approach is aimed at enhancing the flexibility of software processes in the organization. Use of plug-in patterns helps in designing easily configured systems. The latter approach involves radical re-structuring in the systems, processes or philosophy of the organization in the face of an environmental change. The paper discusses these two approaches.
