Overview: Planning is the tool, which helps in operationalizing the strategy of an organization. This, in turn, results in effective realization of the organizational goals. Goals define the roadmap towards realization of an organization’s vision and mission. Management By Objectives (MBO) is a technique to implement the principles of planning in the organization. According to the paper, ‘The planning and controlling functions of management often receive less attention from the small business owner-manager than they should. One way to more effectively fulfill these two functions is through effective goal setting’. The paper explores this issue. It also examines the concept of MBO.
