Overview: While everyone is talking about the SWOT analysis, however there are quiet a few glitches that many a few organizations come across. This article takes a close look at the issues of validity and reliability of a crucial tool of SWOT. This paper looks at the misconceptions held about the nature of the SWOT, poor quality of input and inadequate skills of those who use SWOT, rather than properties of this tool. The author clearly lists down the misconceptions, what is wrong about them, and most importantly the consequences of the misconceptions in a tabular form. The paper explicates how to define SWOT Analysis and develop a SWOT inventory. The paper promises a second part of this analytical process that will highlight the enhancements of the SWOT Analysis.
