Overview: The paper looks at strategies, tools and processes required for increasing newsstand sales of publications. Today titles with modest sales have to come up with high efficiencies and attractive promotional techniques to stay afloat in the market. Sometimes, in this process, their cost goes beyond control and their options for distribution are thinned. Retailer demands for greater efficiencies and profitability and the intense financial pressures on wholesalers have shaped these new realities. Smaller publishers who want to continue to play in the single-copy game have to be willing to stay on top of every aspect of their newsstand programs in order to maximize sales and control costs. There are no quick fixes, and strategies must be tailored title by title.
