Overview: This article provides few simple guidelines, which will help one choose the consultant best, suited to one’s needs. Companies pursuing ISO 9000 registration frequently begin the process by hiring consultants. Although registrars must meet certain accreditation requirements, ISO 9000 consultants have no overseeing bodies to qualify their competence. Some simple issues and criteria can be considered when hiring an ISO 9000 consultant. These are Contractors vs. consultants, Quality vs. management perspective, Distance vs. availability. Thus, one does not need to hire a consultant to help company achieve registration. ISO 9000 is not an esoteric and complex undertaking. One can always learn the standard themselves and figure out how to apply it to the business.
