Overview: The article talks about the asset allocation, there is a division of asset allocation into three categories: policy or strategic asset allocation, tactical asset allocation and dynamic strategies for asset allocation, which are designed to change the distribution of return. The strategic asset allocation can be characterized as a long-term asset allocation decision. The objective to determine the long-term normal asset mixes which will represent the desirable balance of risk and return. Article also explains that in developing the strategic asset allocation, a number of issues must be addressed. Article also addresses the questions that should the investor use an optimization technique to determine the optimal asset mix, or should the mix represented by the benchmark be used? How should the strategic allocation be altered in light of new economic environment.
