Overview: Whether motivated by corporate good will or government mandate, more and more companies are establishing diversity goals for supply and procurement. While these efforts to give business to traditionally underrepresented groups like women and minorities are certainly noble, they often fly in the face of concurrent efforts to streamline corporate supply chain systems. This is hardly surprising, since suppliers that had a hard time making a go of it in the old economy are bound to have a hard time clearing the barriers to entry into the new one. However, one company – b2bdiversity – is trying to lower that bar, and a new alliance with VerticalNet is helping it to do just that.
