Overview: The capital markets just are not what they used to be. Despite the overwhelming sense of doom and gloom that seems to surround the capital markets today, this is actually a good time to enter the fray. Today's startups can learn from the successes and failures of the last generation of companies. At the same time, new players have to come to the table with more in their pockets and recognize that they may be sitting there for a while. Most venture capitalists are becoming aware of these new market dynamics and, while it is harder to get funding today, those companies that do will likely walk away with much bigger checks than their predecessors. Of course, this new generation of Internet entrepreneurs will have to be a little more careful how they parcel out those proceeds.
