Overview: One of the recurring topics of discussion in technical communication is “proving” the value of work. One don’t know these values because current accounting systems have limited means for calculating the financial benefit of value-added services packaged with products or policies and procedures developed for use in-house. It is important to pay attention to the emerging discipline of intellectual capital. This discipline seeks a means of calculating the financial value of the “brainpower” in corporations. This article finds distinction of Intellectual Capital vs. Knowledge Management. Intellectual capital is primarily concerned with the tangible economic value of knowledge. Knowledge has a much greater benefit than can be expressed on a corporate balance sheet.
