Overview: IBM scored a major victory on the e-commerce software front, thanks to a new strategic alliance with the popular online auction house eBay. As part of the agreement, eBay said it would use IBM’s WebSphere e-commerce suite to build the next iteration of its online trading environment. In addition, IBM will “significantly expand” its presence on eBay, making the popular trading sites an important new channel for its hardware and software products. The two companies also agreed to explore joint-marketing opportunities, both online and offline.
