Overview: In this cutthroat, weakness-revealing economy, companies can no longer afford to ignore the problem of managerial procrastination, so the case for agility is obvious. Contrary to conventional wisdom, the article suggests that line managers represent the basic building blocks of agility and lists three emerging prerequisites for corporate agility. It also outlines some key sources of heterogeneity that affect the personal effectiveness of managers in interacting with the system and the enhanced network. Today, much of the discussion of agility focuses on the company at large, as in the agile enterprise or the adaptive organization. However, at the heart of the company are its managers.
