Overview: This white paper asserts that construction project managers are learning what the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy already know—recycled construction products are cost-effective, reliable, easy to obtain, and environmentally friendly. From small jobs to major projects, inside or out, recycled-content construction materials are the way to go. So, whether one is laying the foundation of a building, installing carpet, or constructing and painting walls, choose recycled-content products to make each job a success while doing the part to help conserve natural resources. The article again describes that diverting recyclables from the waste stream is only the first of three steps in the recycling process. The second step occurs when companies use these recyclables to manufacture new products. The third step comes when one purchases products made from recovered materials. Procuring agencies include all federal agencies, and any state or local government agency or government contractor that uses appropriated federal funds to purchase the designated items. It informs that if the agency spends more than $10,000 per year on a product designated in the CPG, one are required to purchase it with the highest recycled-content level practicable. EPA issues guidance in RMANs, which are designed to make it as easy as possible to buy the designated items. The RMANs recommend recycled-content levels to look for when purchasing construction products.
