Overview: Convenient and efficient solutions are now available for treasurers seeking to maximise returns on excess cash balances while, at the same time, reducing administrative workloads. Money market funds provide attractive returns with high credit quality, liquidity and can also be used in conjunction with automated passive sweep investment Programs to produce an efficient and effective solution for management of excess cash balances. Many bank affiliated fund managers can also provide extended cut-off times and electronic access to cash balance information in a single location, across a region or even globally. Care should be exercised in selecting an appropriate money market fund and credit research firms such as Standard & Poor's and Moody's provide rating services on money market funds with AAAm and Aaam, respectively being the highest available. In addition, for larger or more complex treasury groups, individual solutions can be created by fund management firms to closely match liquidity, risk and return characteristics of your organisation.
