Overview: Organizations will undoubtedly take a long time to thoroughly implement changes in employee compensation resulting from corporate scandals and the economy. Furthermore, it will remain to be seen how enduring these efforts will be. However, corporate compensation and HR professionals in charge of the compensation function and outside compensation consultants will be called upon as never before to provide compensation committees of the board with thorough and timely compensation analyses. Lessons learned from the last recession and the rash of corporate accounting abuses that began to surface in 2001 are still evolving. However, in addition to developments that primarily affect the compensation of executives and boards of directors, the slowly recovering economy has caused noticeable changes in general compensation trends.
