Overview: The issue of age discrimination in employment received a lot of press attention in December 2001, with the Pensions Minister, publicising a new Web site to provide practical information for employers and individuals as part of a major publicity drive in the run up to 2006. That is when the European Framework Directive on Equal Treatment will come into force, requiring member states to pass legislation prohibiting, inter alia, age discrimination. It discusses various issues such as remuneration and promotion, training, recruitment etc.
