Overview: Since 6th April 2003, qualifying employees have hence been given the right to request flexible working arrangements. Although there is no obligation on the employer to make a change, employers will have to take the request seriously and justify any refusal on recognized business grounds. In this context the paper examines that who all are entitled to request a change to their terms of employment and what type of change can be requested. It also discusses the effect of change on benefits, employers’ duties in respect of requests, grounds of refusal, withdrawal of application, employment tribunals and appeals procedure.
