Overview: Lloyd’s of London, the world’s oldest and most visible insurer, has set about dealing with the aftermath of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11. Two weeks after the event, it released its projected net loss figures. Due to Lloyd’s unique structure, calculating the potential losses required extra time and energy. Other insurance companies can neatly compartmentalize their business. In fact, the boundaries are increasingly blurred, and it is becoming harder to analyze our business along these lines.
