Overview: The relationship between business and the environment is closely connected: The environment is the source of much input as well as a sink for outputs. So as to minimize harmful impact on the environment, businesses must take a strategic environmental management approach. What exactly is "the environment"? In the context of this article, the environment considered is the natural environment, specifically "the surroundings in which an organization operates, including air, water, land, natural resources, flora, fauna, humans and their interrelation,” Experience from businesses has shown that properly managing this surrounding environment increases corporate value.
