Overview: Middle-market companies are big business in America. The owners and executives of these companies are operating in a world that all of us recognize as increasingly complex and changing: Middle East strife, uncertain financial markets, and evolving business economic health and prosperity issues. The thoughts and actions of middle-market business owners in response to these challenges will help define the paths toward renewed business growth and profitability. Signs of economic recovery are echoed in middle-market optimism regarding business growth. The focus on customers and profitability carries over to the planned actions of middle-market business owners. Eight out of 10 business owners and executives expect to meet personally with key customers over the next six months, and nearly as many (78 percent) plan to streamline business processes. Rounding out the ‘Top Five’ actions planned are: identifying high impact niche opportunities, developing strategic alliances, and taking steps to teach managers to be leaders.
