Overview: While the fog is not nearly cleared enough on the executive compensation front, it does seem likely what happens to executive compensation will have important trickle-down implications for reward practices in general. Article defines one of the cash incentive methods. The use of short- and longer-term cash incentives is the most explored alternative to stock options at the front of the minds of active reward designers. Cash incentives are not given strong consideration in the past because many companies felt them to be cost disadvantaged compared to options. In addition, cash incentives require the development of viable measures and goals, which adds complexity to the design process.
