Overview: Executive coaches have drawn comparisons to everything from athletic coaches to mentors to personal psychologists to trusted confidants. Whatever the analogy, the role of the professional coach is an important one, as he or she serves as both a catalyst and facilitator of individual development and performance. Executive coaches offer a complex array of services (diagnosis, feedback, development planning, etc.) that are dictated by the executive's need for coaching. In turn, these needs are tied to various key situations in which an executive finds himself or herself-and in which a coach can add significant value. These key situations include : Coaching for career or role transitions, Coaching to address a specific challenge or problem, Coaching to avoid problem areas.
