Overview: Recent trends in youth culture suggest an increasingly attitude among teens and college freshmen in the US, which could become a worldwide trend in just a few years. Gen-Y is identified as the current crop of teenagers born between 1974 and 1980. Today, Gen-Y continues to be characterized by many as a sort of super-sized Gen-X. Marketers aiming at Gen-Y frequently assume they respond to brands with hip, edgy statements that cut through media clutter and push the boundaries of style and taste. Whatever the ultimate outcome of these trends, it is clear that youth marketing needs to be given a rethought.
