Overview: In order to make an appropriate analysis of risk, a risk manager must stay informed on everything from current events to current technologies to current legislation. A risk manager must also understand historical trends in order to proactively ascertain potential future risks. Given this, any new technology or market offering to help ease this often burdensome and complicated task is worth exploring in depth. Enter the ASP market. Founded on technology examined in last month’s article, the ASP market hopes to increase the level of technological sophistication in the risk management field ten-fold: to the corporate risk managers, ASPs are offering tools to better consolidate data and increase information flow; to the financial risk community. ASPs may not be right for every company. For some, however, an ASP can be just the thing to help increase productivity and provide advanced data analysis. The ASP market has as many opponents as it does proponents. There is no particular formula for determining when or what to outsource to an ASP. It is a matter of finding out what is best for your company.
