Overview: A well-designed warehouse offers many advantages to the owners. It operates with high labor efficiency, minimizes inventory, utilizes space effectively, minimizes errors, and responds to the needs of customers. A warehouse is a buffer between inbound orders arriving from suppliers and outbound orders delivered to customers. Suppliers of a warehouse typically deliver in large quantities of a single of product types. Effective warehouse design should include analysis and synthesis of at least the following elements are inbound orders, outbound orders, storage requirements, picking strategies and methods, storage methods and layout. A well designed warehouse is easy to manage, serves customers well and contributes to the profitability of the business.
