Overview: Over use of the term process management by consultants, analysts and vendors has led to some confusion among customers of different automation technologies.The situation is particularly acute because workflow engines are often used in the BPM technology stack of middleware and EAI vendors (a relatively recent development). Systems integrators have also used workflow engines for some years to drive application component behaviour within an enterprise IT architecture.
