Overview: For the project initiation the first thing involved is creating a framework. A key factor to getting a project off the ground is the development of a structured approach toward identifying the work scope and timing for the work. If we define the process of project planning and control as the integration of the project work scope, timing, resource usage, and cost, then we will need to develop a structured base for each of these, as follows: First of all the Work Scope. It is the top down hierarchical model, called a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS). And, perhaps, an alternate hierarchical model, by responsibility or performer, called an Organizational Breakdown Structure (OBS). The second is the timing which is a project milestone schedule and finally resources and cost which is a set of resource codes and cost accounts, used to facilitate selection, sorting, summarization, and interrogation of resource and cost data. Sometimes called resource breakdown structure and cost/budget breakdown structure.
