Overview: This case study pertains to Tower Telecom that grew rapidly during its first three years of operation. Its initial risk management plan was unable to adequately handle the growing number of business risks it faced. Eventually, a major crime loss wakened the company’s management to emerging and previously undiscovered exposures that needed to be addressed in a more custom-tailored risk management program. A new risk management plan was implemented to address Tower Telecom’s immediate problems. But senior management still felt compelled to move forward with a proactive insurance and risk management program that would prove to be, once implemented, on the cutting edge. In Tower’s fourth year of growth, it turned to Enterprise Risk Management as the driving process to review all areas of its organization. This article discusses Enterprise Risk Management as it applies to Tower Telecom.
