Overview: Almost half of the companies that lost their records in a fire never reopened their doors again. More than half of those that did open failed to survive several years after the fire, according to statistics published by the Association of Records Managers and Administrators. This article says that some statutes may represent areas where disaster recovery planning intersects with the law that includes developing plans that ensure critical systems are recovered, life safety statustes, risk reduction statustes etc. Many companies find they need a plan just to do business with firms that do have plans and are required by law to have one. These firms, in turn, require that their vendors have a plan. Many need a plan for financing their operations or when considering a public offering to enhance the value of their firm.
