Overview: A large entertainment company had recently undergone numerous acquisitions and hired Aon to help develop a consistent absence management strategy for its multiple businesses. Each division had different absence programs and processes, with varying levels of sophistication – from fully operational and well managed, to essentially unmanaged. The company also wanted a new disability vendor to increase the level of integration for each division in order to better manage absence, improve benefit delivery and streamline administration. Aon reviewed all of one division’s available documentation relating to the company’s absence management process. The team also examined a randomly selected sample of FMLA and STD claims. The evaluation found several key program strengths and opportunities for improvement, as well as strengths and weaknesses in the existing processes. Based on Aon’s recommendation, an enterprise-wide STD/LTD vendor was selected that could accommodate division-specific differences and take the company from its current state to a best practice model.
