Overview: As deadlines loom for earning registration to ISO/TS 16949, it’s not surprising that so many automotive companies are actively working on earning registration to the international variant of the QS-9000 (quality management system standard), which is in the process of being phased out. Rolled out officially just about a year ago as ISO/TS 16949:2002, the new international standard is fully aligned with ISO 9001:2000. Besides the emphasis on continuous improvement that’s the hallmark of ISO 9000:2000/QS-9000, the new standard also emphasizes defect prevention, reduction of variation and waste in the supply chain.
