Overview: As deadlines loom for earning registration to ISO/TS 16949, it’s not surprising that so many automotive companies are actively working on earning registration to the international variant of the QS-9000 (quality management system standard), which is in the process of being phased out. Rolled out officially just about a year ago as ISO/TS 16949:2002, the new international standard is fully aligned with ISO 9001:2000. Besides the emphasis on continuous improvement that’s the hallmark of ISO 9000:2000/QS-9000, the new standard also emphasizes defect prevention, reduction of variation and waste in the supply chain. The article gives some tips and advice on how to gain the most from TS 16949 registration process.
