Overview: ISO/TS 16949:2002 is now fully aligned with ISO 9001:2000, providing for continuous improvement in quality management, as well as emphasizing defect prevention, and the reduction of variation and waste in the supply chain. The goal is for auto suppliers to become more customer- and process-focused. Simply by meeting the standard, the country's component manufacturers could become preferred suppliers to first-tier automotive suppliers everywhere. ISO/TS 16949 also promises a registration market that goes well beyond the 30,000 companies currently registered to different national automotive quality management system standards.
