Overview: ISO 9000 is a group of standards and guidelines for quality management and quality assurance ISO 9001-2000, the most recent standard, applies to manufacturing and service firms and public agencies. The series evolved from the International Organization for Standardization founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 1946. ISO 9001-2000 has eight sections. The first three are general considerations and the remaining five refer to quality system processes, as follows scope, normative reference, terms and definitions, quality management system, management responsibility, resource management, product realization, and measurement, analysis, and improvement. ISO 14000 is a group of international standards for environmental management systems (EMS). ISO 14001 is the standard that gives organizations a globally accepted structure integrating EMS with overall management activity. ISO 14001 also assures that environmental performance meets an array of regulatory, audit, and other environmental management requirements.
