Overview: Although the Hipot test and Current Leakage test can be used to test the same basic DUT insulation, there are some key differences both in the tests and in their results. The Hipot test is performed while applying high voltage across the insulation system with all current-carrying components of the DLJT shorted together. The Current Leakage test uses a measuring device to simulate human body resistance and the test is performed while the DUT is powered up and connected to line voltage. Both tests, while different, are invaluable in determining product safety. Fully automated instruments can now be used to perform many of the required safety and compliance tests. The convenience and safety of a single DUT connection and the ability to log test results automatically for the ISO, insurance and general compliance purposes, enables today’s instruments to keep up with the fast-paced and ever-changing world of global manufacturing. Besides this, the article further eloborates this disscussion.
