Overview: Classifying quality features by their importance is perhaps not something many quality professionals would think to do. But the author of this article argues that identifying and communicating critical-to-quality characteristics is vital for a successful QMS. The article progresses further to the decision that identifying what is important to quality is a vital step in quality planning and needs to be an integral part of every QMS. Concentration on product quality planning by classifying CTQ characteristics is one of the most important keys to achieving world-class quality, reliability, safety and customer satisfaction.
