Overview: The article explains some of the key benefits of outsourcing stem from the aggregation of customer demand for well-defined services. In May 2002, SAIC, based in San Diego, California, offered a "new model" for outsourcing: the services aggregator model. Under this paradigm, the services provider would not only offer managed services for in-scope work, but also manage non-subcontractor third parties hired by the services aggregator's customers. Experience in the healthcare industry for aggregation of purchases by hospitals and healthcare systems suggests that this model merits attention but is not without faults.
