Overview: Stock Options are rights to purchase company stock at a specified exercise price over a stated option term, and represent the most widely used long-term incentive grant type among the Top 250 companies; in fact, all but three companies grant stock options. Variations of plain vanilla stock options are summarized in greater detail. Restricted Stock includes actual shares or share units that are earned solely by continued employment. Currently, fifty-one percent of the Top 250 companies grant restricted stock.
