Overview: The article describes that pessimism that overshadowed the U. S. equity markets in the second half of 2001 continued to plague the market during the rest seven months of 2002. Overall, numerous problem most notably corporate improprieties, terrorist threats and violence hampered the performances of equities in the Middle East. Story stocks those that have intriguing business plans but lack assets bore the brunt of the sell-off, while old-economy stocks, which have stronger and cleaner accounting statements, fought to hold their own.
