Overview: This Case study defines a situation where a dot-com start-up company launched a new concept in ocean-bound shipping – a reverse auction in which a company could post an overseas shipment for bid by shipping service providers, with the lowest price service provider winning the order. Like other online exchanges, the successful launch of the company would depend on generating large numbers of customers very quickly. In a period of just a few months, Channel Source Direct’s highly effective campaign generated 12,000 new users of the dot-com’s web site, enabling them to build the traffic and registered user-base they needed in order to be successful. In addition, the Product Sales Team stimulated these users to post ocean bound shipments for auction, which was essential to get the start-up company up and running.
