Overview: The purpose of this article is to assist 9-1-1 organizations in complying with the TDD/TTY Direct Access mandates of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The primary source of the information for this article being Department of Justice (DOJ) Settlement Agreements entered into by DOJ and individual 9-1-1 organizations. Additional information has been secured from management of a 9-1-1 organization, which has been through a DOJ compliance audit. The aim of this article is not to editorialize or provide legal advice on the issues involved with the subject matter but rather to present information and some inferences based on the sources mentioned.
