Overview: Sexual harassment has cost $2.3 million for a New York-based airline consulting firm Simat, Helliesen and Eichner (SH&E) an affiliate of Reed Telepublishing. Four female employees complained that they were subjected to a hostile sexually charged work environment and the EEOC alleged that SH&E and Reed failed to take prompt and appropriate action to end the harassment. The Reed company then signed a Consent Decree stating that all defendants will pay monetary damages totaling $2,300,000 to the group of four women and their private counsel who filed the sexual harassment complaints. The Consent Decree further requires managers and employees to participate in intensive sexual harassment training. Reed and SH&E must promise not to discriminate against any individual because of their sex and not to retaliate against anyone for complaining about sexual harassment.
