Overview: Some people scale down the number of hours they work, others scale down their job responsibilities. Still others retire then are hired back in some capacity by a previous employer. Yet others explore entirely new careers in the years-proceeding "retirement." As society faces increasing numbers of retiring employees and increased longevity it will challenge our concept of aging as well as who is eligible for social programs. Organizations forced to address workforce concerns in the increasingly competitive global environment will require creative efforts to retain quality employees. Flexible, phased retirement planning will be key among these efforts.
